Bridal Hair and Makeup in the Inner West
Inner West weddings don't all start the same way. It might be a terrace in Newtown with bridesmaids out on the balcony, or the family home in Five Dock with three generations getting ready. Wherever your morning starts, your artist comes to you with their full kit, and the price you see already includes their travel.

The artists who do Inner West brides
Eight artists take bridal bookings at a Newtown address. The cards are nearest first, each with the total you'd see for one bride getting ready there, travel included.
On the Burwood side, Devi, based in Northmead (bride makeup $368.30 at a Burwood address) and Tracey, based in Blacktown (makeup & hair $444.50 at a Burwood address) also take brides.
Who covers you and your exact total depend on your address, because each artist prices travel from their own base. Search with your suburb and date to see yours.
Where Inner West couples say I do
St Stephen's in Newtown stands inside the old Camperdown Cemetery. The standard wedding booking there is three hours: the church opens an hour before, about an hour for the ceremony, then an hour for greetings and photos in the grounds. You can book longer if the church and grounds are available, but whichever you book, work your ready-by time back from the ceremony. A short drive away, wedding photos in the University of Sydney's Quadrangle need a booking with University Venues. If your photographer has booked a time there, your ready-by time can't slip. For something more industrial, the old brickworks chimneys in Sydney Park, on the corner of Sydney Park Road and the Princes Highway at the end of King Street, make a striking backdrop, though the kilns around them are under heritage works until about mid-2027, so ask your photographer what's open.
On the harbour side, Elkington Park in Balmain holds ceremonies at its 1936 band rotunda above the Dawn Fraser Baths, and Birchgrove Oval is a short hop away for photos. Le Montage on Iron Cove at Lilyfield is one of the area's big reception venues, and the sandstone buildings of Callan Park are just along the foreshore. Across Iron Cove, Drummoyne Sailing Club looks over the water to Cockatoo Island. The glass Conservatory in Cabarita Park sits on the Parramatta River, and Concord Golf Club, running since 1899 on heritage-listed grounds, hosts wedding receptions in a clubhouse looking over its lawns.
Plenty of Inner West couples still marry in church; St Fiacre's in Leichhardt has been a parish since 1887. Marrickville Town Hall, opened in 1922, is hired out for wedding receptions. If your morning includes a tea ceremony or door games at home before the church, set your ready-by time for that moment, not for the ceremony. It's the first time everyone sees you, and the camera is already there.
What a realistic wedding morning looks like
Here's one way a 2pm ceremony at St Stephen's could run. The bride, three bridesmaids and mum are getting ready in Leichhardt, and one artist does everyone's makeup:
- 7:45am
- Your artist arrives and sets up by your best window
- 8:00am
- First bridesmaid
- 8:45am
- Second bridesmaid
- 9:30am
- Third bridesmaid
- 10:15am
- Mum
- 11:00am
- You. The bride goes last so the makeup is freshest for photos.
- 12:30pm
- Finished. This is your ready-by time.
- 12:30pm
- Dress, details and photos with your party, until 1:15
- 1:30pm
- The car leaves for Newtown
- 2:00pm
- Ceremony
If one artist does hair as well as makeup for everyone, the morning roughly doubles. Your artist sets their own timing when they reply, including whether they bring help for a big party, so treat this as a starting point. Our wedding morning timeline goes into more detail.
Your trial
Book your trial six to ten weeks out, once your dress and hair accessories are settled. Every artist above lists a bride trial as its own service, and you request it the same way as the day itself. Wear a top with a neckline like your dress, and bring your veil or clips. Plan something for that evening so you can see how the look holds up after a few hours in real light. If you're torn between two looks, say so at the start, because it's easier to try both in one sitting.
Getting ready in an Inner West house
- Parking. Much of Newtown, Glebe, Balmain and Annandale has resident-permit or timed parking. Save your artist a spot close to the door, such as the driveway or a visitor permit if your street has them, because they're carrying a full kit.
- Light. Terraces are long and dim in the middle. Set up at the front window or a back room with daylight, with a table and a chair at normal height.
- Heat. A terrace warms up fast on a summer morning. Run the air-con or a fan so makeup sets properly and hair holds its shape.
- Apartments. If you're getting ready in an apartment hotel near the uni, such as Veriu Camperdown, or any building with a lift, add the access details and parking to your booking page once it's confirmed, so your artist can plan their arrival.
How booking works
- Enter the suburb you're getting ready in, then add your party: bride, bridesmaids, mums and flower girls. Add your date and the time you need to be ready by.
- See the artists who cover your suburb, each with the total for your whole party, travel included.
- Send a request to the artist you like.
- Your artist accepts, or suggests a different time, with the time they'll start and finish.
- You accept that time, suggest another, or cancel.
- Once you've accepted, you pay online to lock in your date. The rest goes to your artist on the day.
A few artists take bookings straight away: you pay to lock in your date and your booking's confirmed there and then, unless your party is bigger than they take on alone, which waits for them to accept first. With everyone else, you send a request first and your artist replies with the time they'll start.
It works the same way on the website and in the Glamr app.

FAQs
- How far ahead should I book bridal hair and makeup in the Inner West?
- Six to twelve months ahead is the usual advice, and spring and autumn Saturdays go first. Some artists open their calendars about six months out, but you can still send a request for a later date. Leave time for a trial six to ten weeks before the day.
- Is travel to my suburb extra?
- No. The price you see for your address already includes your artist's travel. Parking isn't included, so save your artist a spot close to the door or cover their parking on the day.
- Can one artist do both my hair and makeup?
- Yes. Bela, Inez, Elisa, Zainab and Abrienne do bride makeup and hair. Nadine, Sarah and Rebecca do bridal makeup only.
- Can my bridesmaids and mum get ready with me?
- Yes. Add them to the same request and your artist works through everyone at your place, on one timeline. The search shows the artists who can do everyone you add, and your artist sets the timing when they reply.
- When do I pay?
- Once your artist has replied with their start time and you've accepted it, you pay online to lock in your date. The rest goes to your artist on the day. A few artists take bookings straight away: you pay to lock in your date and your booking's confirmed there and then, unless your party is bigger than they take on alone, which waits for them to accept first. With everyone else, you send a request first and your artist replies with the time they'll start.
- Do you cover Burwood, Strathfield and Concord?
- Yes. Ten artists cover a Burwood address, including Devi and Tracey, who work that side of the Inner West. Nine artists cover Strathfield and ten cover Concord. Enter your own suburb to see who reaches it and their price.
- Can I book a trial first?
- Yes. Every artist who covers the Inner West for weddings offers one, and you request it the same way as the wedding day, by adding "Bride — Trial" to your party. Book it six to ten weeks before.
